Silicone AFO

SAFO (Silicon Ankle Foot Orthoses)

The SAFO supports the foot from the front of the leg down to the top of the foot, preventing the foot from dropping, helping to lift the foot while the leg swings during walking. Adjustable by sleek straps and fabricated from silicon, the SAFO is a more forgiving alternative to other splints. Due to the nature of the material, it can be worn directly on the foot.

Available in many different skin tones and colours, it is cosmetically appealing as it can be worn inside normal footwear and colour matched to any skin tone.

Due to the wide variety of ankle and foot orthotics available it is important for our orthotist to accurately assess your condition to establish if the SAFO is the correct orthotic for your child's needs. This assessment will involve discussing your child’s symptoms, lifestyle and goals. Walking patterns will be observed, full range of motion test plus muscle power tests undertaken. The orthotist will then take a series of measurements and a plaster cast of your child’s leg to ensure a well fitting bespoke device is made. A choice from 7 different colours along with some bespoke patterns can be selected depending of individual taste.

The SAFO will then be manufactured and a fitting appointment arrange. The orthtoist will show how to fit and care for the SAFO. This session is also an opportunity to ensure the orthoses is the correct size, fits comfortably and answer any further questions you may have .
